Shopping in Rennes

In the centre of Rennes, in the midst of the city’s rich heritage, a large pedestrian area with a wide range of quality shops provides the perfect environment for browsing or window shopping in Brittany’s retail capital.

North of the Vilaine

In the heart of the pedestrian zone, the Place de l’Hôtel de Ville (M° République) is a good starting point for a shopping trip.

Head down Rue Orléans, Rue d’Estrées, Rue le Bastard or Rue La Motte Fablet to find the best-known chains, which stand alongside more unusual boutiques in Rue de Toulouse, Rue Lafayette and Rue Nationale.

The mediaeval part of the city will win you over with its architectural quality, its colourful half-timbered houses and its fashionable boutiques. Don't miss Place du Haut des Lices, Place Rallier du Baty, Rue Saint-Georges, Rue Saint-Melaine, Rue de la Monnaie, Rue de Montfort and Rue du Chapitre.

South of the Vilaine

Behind the post office (M° République), explore the charms of Rue Vasselot and its gourmet delights. In Place Commeurec, visit the charming brick and metal covered market. Take Rue Maréchal Joffre or Rue de Nemours to discover two shopping centres in the heart of the city: 3 Soleils and Colombia, with 72 shops. (M° Charles de Gaulle).
