Sleep in an Ecolabelled hotel

3 Rennes hotels committed to an environmental approach

Choosing a European Ecolabel certified hotel is a guarantee of environmental and social quality. In Rennes, three hotels are recognised for their sustainable development approach based on the European Ecolabel: the Château d’Apigné, the Hôtel Isidore and the Garden Hôtel.

The only Ecolabel recognised throughout Europe

If you’re lost in the jungle of ecolabels, there’s one that’s a safe bet: the European Ecolabel. The only official European Union Ecolabel recognised by all member countries, it is a reference when looking for hotels (and products) that respect the environment. Issued in France by the French national organisation for standardisation AFNOR, its standards are reviewed every 5 years and hoteliers who commit to the approach are supported by the ADEME (Agency for the Environment and Energy Management). Numerous environmental and social criteria are taken into account, from limiting water consumption to reducing waste and using renewable energies.

With 44 labelled hotels, Brittany is the region in France with the second highest engagement with this sustainable development approach. In Rennes, three establishments have been labelled and committed for a long time: the Château d’Apigné in Le Rheu, the Hôtel Isidore in the eco-district of La Courrouze and the Garden Hôtel in the city centre.

The most stylish: the Château d’Apigné

the Château d’Apigné

For a chic and eco-friendly stay, you don’t need to think twice. Head for the Château d’Apigné in the heart of the Vilaine Valley. Just 10 minutes from the city centre, this splendid romantic castle, which is nestled in a 10-hectare park, is home to a 5-star hotel and a gourmet restaurant. The hotel has been awarded the European Ecolabel label since 2012 and is also involved and recognised in other responsible initiatives such as the Tourism & Handicap label and a partnership with the NGO Mr Goodfish, which raises awareness of the sustainable consumption of seafood products through a European programme.

The most designer:  The Best Western Plus Hotel Isidore

The Best Western Plus Hotel Isidore

The name of this 4-star hotel refers to the famous Italian mosaicist Isidore Odorico, whose family left its mark on the history of Rennes. The interior design also echoes this Art Deco tradition, with decoration that is both contemporary and understated. In the heart of the new eco-district of La Courrouze, the spa hotel and its bistronomic restaurant – La Cocotte d’Isidore (Isidore’s cooking pot) – are just a few pedal strokes from the centre via the cycle paths. The Hôtel Isidore was awarded the European Ecolabel in 2016. It is also a signatory of the eco-responsible charter initiated by Destination Rennes.

The most central:  Garden Hôtel

Garden Hôtel

Looking for a rural feel right in the city centre? The Garden Hôtel is a good choice for the environmentally conscious traveller. This 2-star hotel is ideally located near the TGV train station. Since obtaining the European Ecolabel in 2016, the Garden Hotel has been committed to being an eco-responsible hotel with flats to welcome travellers in a spacious house full of character. The Garden Hotel is also a signatory of the eco-responsible charter issued by Destination Rennes.
