This building was designed in 1963 and completed in 1969. The original tiller (barre) design was discarded because it wouldn’t have blended into the landscape. The solution chosen by architect Georges Maillols to provide a hundred flats was a cross-shaped building with four asymmetrical wings converging into a pyramid shape. The sides of the building feature spacious terraces lined with flower beds. The unusual design has earned Barre Saint-Just the nickname of ocean liner.
