Black and white in the Pinault Collection
12 June – 29 August 2021
The exhibition is over
At the Couvent des Jacobins
Around 100 works by 57 artists
Throughout summer 2021 (from Saturday 12 June to Sunday 29 August), the new exhibition of the Pinault Collection will offer a never-before-seen tour of works from François Pinault’s collection of contemporary art at the Couvent des Jacobins in Rennes.
The head of the exhibition, Jean-Jacques Aillagon, general director of the Pinault Collection, has selected 108 works, created by 57 artists from France and around the world. Many of these works have never before been displayed in exhibitions of the Pinault Collection.
They explore the many disciplines of contemporary art (painting, sculpture, drawing, video, fashion) and invite visitors to ponder the symbolism of black and white.
At the Musée des beaux-arts
Pure colour
In response to this exhibition, another key artistic moment will take place over the same dates at the Rennes Musée des beaux-arts: La couleur crue (“Pure colour”). The commissioning of this exhibition is supported by the Musée des beaux-arts (Jean-Roch Bouiller) and two contemporary art centres: 40mcube (Anne Langlois) and La Criée (Sophie Kaplan). La couleur crue concentrates on the relationship between colour and material in contemporary art.
Exporama
A new meeting place around contemporary art
These two exhibitions are part of the new summer meeting place proposed by the City of Rennes and Rennes Métropole: “Exporama”. In addition to the La couleur crue and the Le noir et le blanc exhibitions in the Pinault Collection (initially planned for summer 2020 but moved to 2021 due to the pandemic), other events will round off this summer schedule, bringing together local names in contemporary art, such as Les Champs Libres, FRAC Bretagne and the two contemporary art centres La Criée and 40mcube.
